We too have fallen foul of the eon/bwlegal debacle. I sent the provit letter which is as started below:

"Dear Sir/Madam

Account No: 0XXXXXXXXXX0                                  Your New Reference Number: TXXXXXXX
You have contacted me regarding the account with the above reference number, which you claim is owed by myself.

I would point out that I have no knowledge of any such debt being owed to CREDITOR.

That in fact, was not our account number. Further, we have a final bill up until the 17 April 2021 when we left the property which was settled in full plus we had a credit rebate."

Our disputed bill is from the 18 April 2021 thru to 26 May 2021 and is for £58.20. £58.20!!! We never used more than £40 pcm (£39.xx) even in the depths of winter!

Two questions:

1) The bold part is what I added into the provit letter, should I have done?

2) Sent by email, is that an acceptable method or should I use snail mail?

BTW On the 27 August 2021 we received a revised final bill giving us another £6.75 credit rebate.

Found this on another thread: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6318060/bw-legal-for-e-on-do-i-have-to-pay#latest

    "EAST17 said:
Hi, I think I can help!
    ..............
As soon as I got through to a rep, she asked ‘Is this letter from BW Legal?’ Which surprised me, I answered yes & she told me to disregard all communications from them. She said a technical error had resulted in many wrongful bills & debtors letters being sent out. She also said affected customers will be contacted about this shortly. I’m so glad I didn’t pay as I knew it was incorrect.

Try calling e-on customer services again & see what they advise; I am interested to know if anyone else has been affected by this incident, thanks."

    I'll follow that advice.
