CHARTER SAVINGS BANK

Has anyone else experienced a long delay receiving their new account statement and details?  I opened their Issue 21 Easy Access Savings Account back in July 2021.  I asked to change to Issue 23 for the higher rate on 12th November and was told I would have to complete new Application Forms.  Charter Bank confirmed they received my completed forms on 16th November '21 and was told it takes 5 working days to process.  I phoned again on on 2nd December and was told they are very busy and my application was waiting in Authentication despite my personal details being identical.  From their receipt of my application 18 working days have passed and still no new account details.  It involves a considerable sum of money to have unconfirmed and undocumented in my possession.

  • Charter are usually really on the ball.
Matured account closed a few days ago and opened a new one. Within days emails and letters, confirming closure, opening of new account etc., I added funds  to new account, e-mail next day confirming this.
They were very helpful, even when I made a bloomer and got 1new account funding wrong by 1 number.
it was returned next day to my bank and I corrected this and sent funding again.
Really can’t fault their customer service..

    To:  ozoz7070  Re your question
In July Issue 21 was paying 0.5% gross as also shown on MSE site and paperwork I received confirmed.  Issue 23 was offering 0.6% gross on Application Forms but I don't know what it is now as so much time has past since I requested the upgrade which has not been completed.  In the past I wouldn't have bothered to change for such a small percentage increase but we are now living in such different times. With the sum invested it was worth trying for the increase.  Not so sure now!!

Do you have the postal version of the Easy Access account?
FWIW, I have the online version, and did as you have done,  had issue 21, opened issue 23 - transferred everything from issue 21 into 23, which automatically included the outstanding interest, and selected the option to close account. Worked perfectly, and instantly, and IIRC, the (largely superfluous) paperwork for the new account arrived a couple days later.

Thanks SJMALBA for your reply.  Yes I opted for a Post Account which is necessary at the moment.  Not had a problem with any other provider

I only stick up to fscs amount in any one account. I'm sure the .1% is still worth it but it won't be up high on the to do list!

Also painfully slow to open account with them. Did the stuff on line and got request for ID documents early in October which we sent. Chased them up by email two weeks later and they replied saying we had to call. With visions of a long wait (and plenty of other things to do) we thought we'd wait for them to get in touch. They did that late November, we spoke on the phone 2nd December which seemed to go fine - still not sure what actually was the problem that needing resolution. We deposited the minimum amount and were told we'd get the intro pack (or something) - that has yet to arrive. Slow slow slow............

I feel your pain UncleK.  I cleared all their security back in July and the Issue 21 account I assume was running well, they only had to switch me to Issue 23.  I am wondering if it is a delaying tactic to avoid paying the additional interest because the last time I phoned my application was still in Authentication, it is now 21 days and they work Saturdays which I have not counted so it is even longer.
