Need suggestion on bolts to use in petrol engine (most likely aluminium block)

  • My experience with too many head gasket replacements on Imps (which are alloy block, alloy head) is always make sure the threads in the block are clean by running a tap down them, and that the bolts are clean using a wire brush, then apply copperslip (not too much) before re-assembly.

Served me well over 30 years, the only time I have difficulty dismantling is the first time on a new (to me) engine.

You can torque a 10.9 bolt way above the requirements for a wheel. Probably enough to crack or crush your thermostat
housing.  8.8 can be torqued enough to hold the wheel onto a large family sized or performance car.

Its a thermostat that probably needs 20% of the max torque of a 8.8 bolt never mind a 10.9.

I was thinking more of it pulling the threads out of the holes in the aluminium block rather than damaging the thermostat housing.

The standard steel screws will be fine for continued use.
Btw, the fixing in your link isn't a bolt (bolts have a shoulder).
