Evidence required for driving under section 88

Dear all,

My colleague has been awaiting renewal of a short-term medical driving licence, which has now expired whilst in the hands of DVLA for many many weeks. Unfortunately although we have photos of the postal form that was sent in, we have no confirmation from DVLA that the forms are received or being processed. Without a valid passport, we are unable to reapply in parallel online.

My understanding is that in order to continue to drive (required for work), evidence is required that the DVLA renewal is underway. Can anyone suggest a way forward given that DVLA are currently completely non-responsive (all phone lines refuse to get as far as letting us get on hold, and no help seems to be offered online/email/webchat).

We are aware that medical approval is also required.

Many thanks for any help/suggestions/advice anyone can provide, I'd imagine many others must be in the same situation.

I had no problem getting through last week to DVLA .

Try when they open .
