I'm invested in one of the HSBC Global Strategy funds on the iweb platform. It's £100 flat fee to open an account at iweb now, but was £25 when I opened my isa. It's one of the cheaper platform for large sums invested & just £5 for each deal you do & if you don't intend to deal very often then you'll have very little outlay.

I'm not sure of how this compares to investing via HSBC funds direct.
Iweb will be cheaper, but the main point is that doing it either way will avoid the high advisor cost.
The OP is inexperienced so might be more comfortable investing with a well known bank that they already have contact with .
