8 month old dishwasher

I bought a Currys Essentials dishwasher 8 months ago. It developed a fault and as I understood I had to give them one chance to repair it. That repair lasted 10 days before it failed. They are now claiming they will come out and repair it again. I have checked with consumer advice (Scotland) who informed me that I am indeed entitled to a refund. I cannot get a hold of anyone to speak to. I’ve raised a complaint on the web chat to be told it would be 48-72 hours then subsequently told 14 days! Has anyone managed to speak to anyone about a complaint or have an email address I could forward my letter to? I am getting so frustrated with all this. 2 hours on the phone to get absolutely nowhere. The web chat people are making no sense and I am banging my head off a brick wall.

Can you go into a store? I have had some success by standing in the store and complaining very loudly about that fact that my refund has not been processed. I would only do this if you bought it in the store.

If you bought it online, I would try complaining on Facebook on the Currys page.

I think that 48-72 hrs to process a refund is acceptable (providing that it is done within 72 hrs), but 14 days is not acceptable. However, your loss if they only refund in 14 days is not going to be that great. This is a good use of a credit card - you can buy a replacement before you get the refund for the failed item.

I would suggest a Bosch dishwasher as a good replacement. You can often find them on eBay, nearly new, as a result of people having a kitchen makeover. They can be very cheap, but you will need a means to collect it.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

The timescale the OP quoted was to get a reply to their complaint. Not any refund.
    Life in the slow lane
  • I also think they are waiting for a response to their complaint rather than waiting to receive a refund.

But if they were waiting for a refund, I wouldn't necessarily consider 14 days too long to wait.
  • Thanks for the replies. I am still waiting to hear back about my formal complaint I made BUT I have managed to speak to people on Facebook messenger who have told me they will get an uplift number from repairs and arrange collection back to warehouse then I will be issued a full refund. I am however 24 hours waiting on this despite me messaging them twice today. So I won’t hold my breath. Customer service has been absolutely shocking. Worst I’ve ever experienced. I will message again in the morning. Going they will get fed up with me soon and give me what I’m owed.

Given that you have had the dishwasher for 8 months it may not be a 100% refund they give you.
Was it really "everybody" that was Kung Fu fighting ???
  • Currys are collecting the dishwasher tomorrow and I have been told I can expect a full refund within 14 days. This was far too difficult and frustrating and I will never step foot in currys again (probably). They have wasted hours of my time. Ordered a Bosch from John Lewis arriving Tuesday. Thanks for your replies. 👍🏼

That might be out of the frying pan and into the fire if some of the posts on here are to be believed.

Then again cannot compare Bosch to Curry's essential brand. Should get more than 8 mths from a Bosch.  JL offer at least 2yrs warranty anyhow.
