The government deposited £10 into my bank account this morning and I'm not on benefits. It was a nice surprise. I am pretty old, though. And I hate the way they call state pensions 'benefits'. You get your State Pension, which as you say, is a benefit. Off course it’s a benefit. My daughter received this £10 bonus as a widowed mother in thee 1980's. She used to buy 200 ciggies and a bottle of whisky, seems to have devalued a bit since then.
