The government deposited £10 into my bank account this morning and I'm not on benefits. It was a nice surprise. I am pretty old, though. And I hate the way they call state pensions 'benefits'. I worked jolly hard for my contribution to pensions!

You get your State Pension, which as you say, is a benefit. Several other benefits are also based on NI contributions.

Off course it’s a benefit.  All those in work paying their tax and ni are the ones responsible for you getting it.

If it's not a benefit then what else would you call it? Criteria for this bonus is here, which includes State Pension. https://www.gov.uk/christmas-bonus/eligibility

  • My daughter received this £10 bonus as a widowed mother in thee 1980's. She used to buy 200 ciggies and a bottle of whisky, seems to have devalued a bit since then.
