The government deposited £10 into my bank account this morning and I'm not on benefits. It was a nice surprise. I am pretty old, though. And I hate the way they call state pensions 'benefits'. I worked jolly hard for my contribution to pensions! Please note - taken from the Forum Rules and amended for my own personal use (with thanks) : It is up to you to investigate, check, double-check and check yet again before you make any decisions or take any action based on any information you glean from any of my posts. You get your State Pension, which as you say, is a benefit. Several other benefits are also based on NI contributions.MalMonroe said:The government deposited £10 into my bank account this morning and I'm not on benefits. It was a nice surprise. Off course it’s a benefit. All those in work paying their tax and ni are the ones responsible for you getting it.MalMonroe said:The government deposited £10 into my bank account this morning and I'm not on benefits. If it's not a benefit then what else would you call it? Criteria for this bonus is here, which includes State Pension. https://www.gov.uk/christmas-bonus/eligibility

My daughter received this £10 bonus as a widowed mother in thee 1980's. She used to buy 200 ciggies and a bottle of whisky, seems to have devalued a bit since then.
