Vauxhall Meriva
Hi all, the gearbox on my 2010 vauxhall Meriva has gone, going. I can't put it in reverse, 4th or 5th gear. It sticks so badly. The gear changing wires have apparently all rusted and it is a common fault with Meriva. I have been quoted £600 to replace the gearbox and wires.
Other than that my car is really good for its age and low mileage. Does that price sound right??

Sounds massively expensive.Take it somewhere else for a quote. It doesn't need a new gearbox, there is a repair kit for the linkage (more common failure) that is about £60 from Vauxhall, and about an hour to fit.If it is the cables, they are about £125 from Vauxhall. There are cheaper versions available.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
