Not going directly home after arrival - allowed?

I am due to take my first international trip in over 3 years and with the current regulations just wanted to check if my plan is allowed
Not flying into local airport and arrival will be 8pm on a Saturday evening mid December. Travelling alone and not knowing what the weather conditions will be (Scotland!) had planned to stay in hotel on arrival and drive home on the Sunday morning in daylight and take day2 test when home.
Can I do this? - will have been tested before departure and stick to room service at hotel if hungry.
Lots of first here for me...first solo holiday and first where not travelling to/from my local airport!

Not sure about the rules for Scotland but this is what it says for England
https://www.gov.uk/guidance/how-to-quarantine-when-you-arrive-in-englandHow to travel to the place where you’re quarantining
When you arrive in England, go straight to the place you’re staying to quarantine. Only use public transport if you have no other option, and make sure you follow safer travel guidance for passengers.
Long journeys to your quarantine accommodation
If you have a long journey within the UK to arrive at the place where you’ll be quarantining, you may be able to stop overnight in accommodation where you can quarantine yourself from others before continuing your journey.
You must follow the guidance on how to stay safe and prevent the spread of COVID-19. You must quarantine and provide the address of your overnight stop on your passenger locator form in addition to your declared accommodation address.2 -
thank you. I can't see anything as specific as that on the Scottish site but suspect same would apply. It is not a long journey (about an hour) and mostly main roads but was concerned about arriving in severe weather.
I will play it by ear I think and not book anything and plan to make the journey back home that evening as long as it is safe to do so.0 -
If you will be isolating at hotel on the first night you need to put this address on the PLF as well as the address you will spend the rest of your isolation.2

Friend just came back from MexicoShe went straight home as instructed .... landed at Heathrow, tube to Euston, train to Stafford, taxi to home, then out to the post box with her PCR testI'm sure she didn't come in contact with anyone else on her journey!0

I flew in from Albania yesterday to LHR stayed at a Premier Inn near The Airport and flew back up to Edinburgh this Morning.
On the PLF I didn't mention the overnight stay and my dates of arrival in the UK 5th December and return to my supposed place of self-isolation at home on the 6th December were not queried despite the disparity.
You seem to be under the mistaken apprehension that anyone in officialdom is taking this seriously or there are cross checks in a joined up system - that's a total fallacy .
NHS Trace and Track seem to have given up inundating returnees with texts, haven't heard a dickie bird from them this time - thank god.
Try if for yourself and you'll realise what is supposed to happen diverges wildly in reality as the whole process is not fit for purpose.
Once again, please stop attempting to incite others into committing criminal offences whether the process is fit for purpose or not..💙💛 💔3 -

Can you point to a case where someone has been fined or imprisoned (?) for omitting the fact on a PLF they stayed overnight in London before proceeding back to Scotland the following day having returned from abroad ?0 -

To what purpose. Nobody here can change anything.
Contact your MP who may have more influence than folks on here.2 -

I think we all agree the current system is not fit for purpose, but it does make me a little annoyed when some will blatantly flout the system in an illegal manner before encouraging others to do so.💙💛 💔0 -

Just to clarify (once again) I am not encouraging anyone to break the law, just reporting what it's like on the "front line". People can make their own minds up to the correct course of action to follow.
Incidentally talking about the law I noticed you swerved the question about prosecutions for the circumstances I cited - could you not find any ?1
