Flights booked for 11/12/21 to Canaries. New Spanish entry rules 01/12/21 - all tourists 12+ must prove double vaccination. Child on the booking not double jabbed.
TUI option is to amend booking for any flight up to April 2022, but minimum cost is extra £1,000, they advise cancellation by us is 100% loss. TUI alternative advice is to claim on Travel Insurance?
I asked about reclaim of Airline taxes and baggage extras, advisor didn’t know, unable to find anything on website. Any advice please?

  • A lot of families in this situation.
Is this a flight only booking with TUI or package deal ?

This really needs to be an insurance claim to avoid losing a lot of money. The tax is £13 per seat, very unlikely to refund additional charges such as luggage and baggage fees, so please say you have a decent policy that will cover you?

Thank you - flight only booking.
Long standing Annual policy with Aviva, so hopefully will cover.

Aviva website says they will consider the claim if vaccination requirements changed from the time you made your booking and you can’t reschedule.

    “If I can't travel because I haven't had my COVID-19 vaccinations, am I covered?

No, unfortunately you won't be covered. First you should get in touch with your travel provider to see if you can reschedule your trip. If you booked it before you knew you'd need a vaccine to travel and you can't reschedule, get in touch with our Claims department and we'll consider your claim.”

Please report back on the outcome as it will help other families who are in a similar situation.
  • Thanks for this, flights booked in September when child was fully vaccinated with 1 jab under UK Vaccination policy.
Spanish entry requirements changed last week.
I will update with Aviva response.
