Covid travel rule for a child who has turned 12 one week before travel

I have booked a holiday to Lanzarote with my sister and nephew in Feb. My nephew will have had his12th birthday one week before we travel so he cannot be vaccinated in time for the holiday. What are the rules on this? Will he still be classed as a child who does not need to be vaccinated or will he be classed as an over 12 who has not been vaccinated? Things are so much more difficult if he is put into the unvaccinated category :/

If you're expecting an unvaccinated 12 year old to be treated as something other than an unvaccinated 12 year old, I suspect you're in for disappointment - I can't see anything in the rules that grants some sort of preferential status to those who have only just turned 12....
  • The rules for an unvaccinated 12 year old will apply -so under the current rules your nephew won’t be permitted to enter Spain as it’s only open to fully vaccinated travellers.

However it’s likely that both the entry requirements for Spain and UK will have changed several times by Feb .

He will be classed as a 12 year old who is unvaccinated and therefore under the current rules not be eligible to enter Spain.

I too suspect the rules may have changed multiple times between now and when you go.

Follow the procedure for a 12 years old to avoid disappointments.

It is an anomaly, as we are allowed to vaccinate those that are 17 and 3/4 in preparation for them to be fully vaccinated by the time they are 18.

Then again it won’t make much difference for Spain as 12-15 yr olds are only entitled to one dose in the UK and Spain doesn’t consider one dose as fully vaccinated.
