I'm still a bit reluctant to name a VPN provider, sorry for being obtuse
In any case, I doubt that you have used the various VPN providers to the extent that would place you in a position to make any meaningful "recommendation".

I have used and evaluated a number of them but my specific quest for speed, port forwarding and privacy doesn’t really equate to the type of usage that the OP’s casually needs.

For what it is worth I’ve had annual subscriptions with a few of the big names NordVPN / PIA / Surfshark / ExpressVPN and evaluated many others over the last 10 years for my purposes. I’ve run them on routers, PC’s, mobile phones and servers.

Finally settled on Mullvad for being the only one to have a combination of Wireguard / permanent port forwarding by server / no P2P throttling / flat pricing / local servers / consistently capable of 500 mbps / kill switch / good Linux config support / no personal details needed / no spam emails / European HQ / independently audited.

I’ve sent / received about 30TB of data through Mullvad since July and have a Linux server connected to it 24/7 so I’d say that was extensively used.

None of that info is of any use to the OP though which is why I referred them to a review site and said I was reluctant to name one.
  • Thanks for all the help, I did switch the private relay function on yesterday so I’ll give that a go and it’s made me realise that I need to keep on top of my privacy in general. I’ll also only use my 4g and just be very careful. I think I’d taken it for granted living in a fairly remote area, however I’m due to visit a city and that’s what made me take action which I know is ridiculous.  I understand more about my privacy now and will definitely keep on top of it, regardless of where I am. 🙏
