Forthcoming changes to insurance in 2022 and existing policies

As insurance costs are expected to go up as of 1 January 2022, I'm looking to see if I can pay for my home and car insurance this month for new policies due to start mid March. Would I need to cancel the remainder of my existing policies, or can I agree new policies now and pay for them which will start when my existing policies expire please?

I found it difficult to get covered for my eBay side business as part of my home and contents insurance without paying over the odds, so keen to renew that as a minimum
Thank you

Most insurers will only quote a couple of months in advance at the most and so unlikely to be able to bank renewals now for something in mid march. Your alternative is likely to be to cancel the existing policies, with its associated fees, and buy new policies commencing now.

Its purely speculation as to what is really going to happen now that new customer discounts have effectively been outlawed, certainly there is an expectation of an averaging of premiums but previous expectations havent come to pass, plus if you are quoting for March almost certainly some will have implemented their changes already and so your quote may well be missing the new customer discount.

For your car insurance you'll also see the impact of the Whiplash Reforms which is anticipated to reduce premiums and so the two may net each other off.
