Will DVLC take a recurring annual DD from the bank I switched to?

Was originally set up with M&S current account and switched to Lloyds and shows up in my list of Lloyds DDs.

Got email from dvlc advising DD about to be taken and details of account to be debited……..M&S

Nothing taken yet. Obviously M&S account is long closed. Will Lloyds process it as part of the switch guarantee should dvlc try to debit my closed account?
Will the Lloyds account be the one debited anyway as I’d presume dvlc would have updated their records and the DD was added by Lloyds  (or not I’m thinking or not)?

Hope I’m still entitled to drive on the public highway?! Maybe a call to dvlc tomorrow to be put on hold for a few hours or am I being cynical.

It should ll work correctly but if you are concerned you can do one of the following

    1. ask Lloyds to confirm, in writing, that the DVLA can take the DD as expected
    2. just change your DD details with the DVLA
I would do the latter myself.

I had very similar concerns when I switched recently although it was not DVLC but several utility companies and other regular DDs.

Some were still showing the old account on the day before they were due to come out. Several were due on the first of the month and on that day they were all debited from the new account. The details of the new bank account also appeared on their websites on the day they were debited.

Like you, I was sceptical but everything turned out fine.

I also believe that the Switch Guarantee should give you comfort. I do not believe you need to call DVLC, just check your new bank account on the day the DD is due and if it has not come out contact them.

Thanks for the link. On the right of that page is a link to check if your vehicle is taxed input the reg and comes up with all the cars details including Taxed 1st December. I know they don’t actually take the dd on 1st but guessing it’s going through now! Will monitor Lloyds tomorrow should all be well.

Hadn't thought of that. I have checked this in the past and I guess the most important thing is that the car is taxed.

You can also check on the Lloyds direct debit page (assuming they have one like NatWest do). It may well give the date of the most recent payment on the DVLA DD mandate. It may show up in advance of the actual transaction entry.

PS Does the Gov site say when the car tax is next due?

The dd is showing but nothing to say a payment is pending or about to be taken and first time from Lloyds so no history of past payments just a dd.

dvlc email of 30nov just said dd being taken along with M&S bank details, no dates. But refers to Dec 2021.

ADDENDUM opened the Mandate pdf attached to their email and it says DD is taken on 14th December 2021.

Okay thanks. I have just checked on the government website and it says that my car is taxed - tax due 1st August 2022. I do recall though that they say it takes a day or two to update.

I hate the switching process where it relates to direct debits. If only companies would do nothing but carry on as they were it would work. Unfortunately they insist of setting up another DD so you get duplicates on your new account. If you cancel what appears to be the original, the bank tells the company that you have cancelled and the company contacts you to set up yet another. After four switches you will see multiple duplicated DDs in your new account. Where there is no incentive, I like to do a manual switch which suits my OCD tendencies!

If the DD is showing on your new account it should all be ok
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.
  • Opened the pdf attachment from dvlc and it states DD will be taken on 14th December.

As shows as paid on dvlc site I assume they are confident the DD (from M&S lol ) will go through.let you all know on 14th what happens.
