Child benefit change of circumstances help needed

I need to reapply for child benefit and have come stuck in the process. Hoping someone can help please.
Previously didn't get CB for the past few years as my husband earned just over the high income bracket. We have now separated and I need to reinstate CB payments as I am on a low income.
When I am trying to click the reason for the change, 'no longer married', or anything similar, does not appear as an option. I have been on hold all day for two days waiting for an online chat.
When I look at the first page that says what kind of change I need to tell them about, ending a marriage is there. But not during the process. Does anyone have a clue where I am going wrong with this please?

Did you actually stop the CB claim previously or did you simply ask not to be paid it.
If the latter then you are not making a new claim but need to report a change and ask for payments to be resumed.
If the former then you need to make a new claim

and you will not be reporting a change, simply making a new claim. As part of the new claim you will state your marital status.

  • Thanks Calcotti. I will try this. Probably the latter.
  • Got through it this time perfectly. Thank you for your help.

Just realised I mixed up my former and latter in my original post. I have now corrected that but hope it hasn’t caused you any confusion. Hopefully whatever you have now done will resolve it for you anyway.

  • Believe it or not, when I went back on I did it the opposite way to what you said and it worked perfectly. But what you said still gave me the guide as to what I needed to do. So thank you as i was getting frustrated.
Now to try to sort out the council tax which won't recognise my name and address details! A job for tomorrow as I need to try to speak to a human, as the computer says NO!
