Any modern equivalent of net and curtains?

Window Film Company is what we used from John Lewis I think. It was fairly opaque, we chose the wrong one, but we had a bay window, and we did the main window bit left the sides clear so best of both worlds, this was upstairs0

Have you thought about perfect fit blinds? The fit inside the window frame itself, and the windows can be opened with the blinds in place. We have wooden Venetian perfect fit blinds on the bottom sashes of our bay window. They were cheaper than shutters but nicer than normal Venetians and do the same job as nets. You can’t see in - unless yu were to press your nose against the glass I suppose.0

'Voiles' are the modern equivalent to net curtains.
I had verticle blinds in my office, but plantation shutters are much better, in every way except you cannot fold the back for a completely clear window, should you ever want that.1 -

It also depends what frame type you have as well , obviously! so you can have ones like these:
or ones like these:
Or just one big panel I suppose.0 -
You could just fit two sets of vertical blinds if your recess is deep enough.
We have a double roller blind; the front facing in is blackout, the back is sheer and for reducing glare from the sun, but would also make it hard to see in. You can buy double roller blinds from Blinds2Go, but I found the combinations disappointing and they were unwilling to make exactly what I wanted so I just bought the blinds separately from them (we really liked the blackout one) and bought double brackets elsewhere.1 -

@silvercar I have some Perfect Fit blinds, and as far as I can tell their frames overlap the glass by about half an inch, maybe a bit less (all round of course).
I've had mine a few years and I love them. I can control each one individually. I have a five panel square bay and one is down a lot for privacy, and the others are individually altered when the sun is bright and low, as it is at this time of year.
And because they fit to the individual windows they don't get in the way of any other window coverings you might want to have.
I like venetian blinds and still have them on 2 bedroom windows, but the Perfect Fit blinds are streets ahead.0 -
Rooms where I want to do this I'm installing horizontal wooden blinds (rather than the bent tin "venetian" blinds I recall from the kitchen of my childhood) inside the window recess, with curtains with at least 6" overhang on each side outside. I have a huge antipathy to nets, which I grew up with in most of the house and my parents still have.Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230
