Resolved - Saunier Duval SD 30e manual timer, assistance please

I've been defeated by the above, even following the instructions, but I just can't get the radiators to automatically turn on.
When I want them on usually I press the tap / radiator button, press it again when I want to switch it off. I thought it would be nice to get up to a slightly warmer flat as it's a bit fresh in the mornings at the moment.
I set the right time, set the time tappets, twisted the inner thing to programme.
I'm guessing the timer has been replaced at some point as the override switch is in the middle bit.
Besides giving it a wipe over as it's not been cleaned, what's the obvious step I'm missing?

Some weird stuff there...That diagram of the 'clock' doesn't match the actuality, tho' at second glance I think it's clear where the on/off/clock selector is - and it's where you said...!So, yes, you appear to have gotten that set correctly - at the clock symbol. (And now I've just reread what you said about it likely to have been swapped...)Oookkkaay, I think the big Q is - what was that switch at before you changed it to 'clock'? I'm hoping it was at 'I'? If so, that would have made the 'timer' part - the clock - permanently 'on' 24 hours, so what you were then doing was to manually turn the boiler itself on and off using the tap/tap+rad button. The first thing to try, then, is to leave the selector switch on 'clock' but to make sure the tap/rad light is also on. Is it? I'm hoping this means the boiler is in the 'tap/boiler' setting, but will only come on when the clock also tells it to.Make and model of that ancient boiler, please1

@Bendy_House
Tell me about it, took me ages to work out how to switch it all on when I got the keys!
It's a Saunier Duval 30e, as per the title. Sorry, I should have put it in my OP too.
I can't remember what it was originally set to 🙈
It's an instant hot water / hot water on demand thing. The tap light only goes on when I'm running hot water.
When I press the tap and tap / rad button, that's how my heating manually switches on / off.
I've just turned it to o and nothing happened, turned it to I and nothing happened. I thought one of them would make it come on instead of using the tap / rad button.
I have put it back on the clock setting and moved a few tappits to see if it reboots or something; so far nothing.
I don't know if these kind of things need to have the clock twisted each time I try something and it doesn't work?
Or if I set the time, tappits, press the tap / rad button and it only comes on when the pointer and tappit meet?
Just going to try both of the above and see if that makes any difference.
I've also double checked the pointer, to make sure it was that I put permanent marker on and not a blob of dirt.

I can hear something from the clock area, almost like a train along tracks and the timer is moving around.
I felt the tappits clicking into place as I passed them while moving the dial round again to reset the clock. The heating hasn't come on.
The twisty button for the water temperature, right side light is on. Nothing for the corresponding rad light right hand side.
A photo of more info, just in case that helps.

You may have sussed it @Bendy_House !
Twist the timer to reset it. Do the tappits. Switch to clock. Press the tap / rad button, it lights up the tap / rad light but doesn't immediately turn the heating on and walk away.
I don't think it's going to switch on. I'll try again when I get up, unless I've boiled in my sleep as it's due to switch on again at 6.30am.
Maybe it's switch to clock, twist the timer, do the tappits, press the button 🤔
If there's an obvious step I'm missing, let me know!Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.0 -
I've sussed it, purely by accident.
Tappits out, not in.
Switch to clock, press the tap / rad button, set the time, pull the tappits out for when I want it to come on.
