Landlord's insurance when owner sometimes stays in property?

I am looking for insurance for a property that has been in my family for many years. It is a cottage in an area of outstanding natural beauty and is tenanted, but we have an arrangement with the tenant: every summer when she is away we stay in the property, and at other times we camp in the grounds. Now, last time I explored insurance I found that standard landlord insurance is rendered invalid if the owner ever stays in the property. I did find a niche insurer who offered the cover we need, but this year the premium has more than doubled (we have never claimed against this insurance). 

Any suggestions? Or should we just bit our lips and pay the increased premium?

If you have found the cover already then I'm sure you can find it with someone else. I have a slightly unusual landlord insurance policy which I can only find from a handful of smaller insurance brokers. All the main name insurance companies just don't want to know.

My insurance broker took the time to listen to my issue and then went out to find me the insurance I needed. Initially I thought it was a little expensive but once I found a few other quotes to compare it to I realised it was actually extremely good value for money.

Have you got a local insurance broker you can try for this? You will, unfortunately, have to take time to put in a few phone calls but it'll be worth it, even if it's just to know yours is the best price.
