My Lenovo Yoga laptop will not start the start button light just keeps flashing. Been like this for several days so not affecting battery. Any suggestions, as would really like to keep this touch screen laptop as they are so expensive now

My niece brought me her son's laptop that wouldn't startI used a pin to open the CD drive, removed the Harry Potter DVD and it struck up straight away!!!

Try plugging it into the mains; leaning on the start button for five seconds. Let go of it and press it once.
If that fails, what precise model is the laptop ?

as-in this one?

some of the older lenovo yogas have a dedicated 'restore to original condition' (hardware) button. I'm not sure about this one.

Sorry I quoted wrong one it is the Yoga 500-151BD Laptop (ideapad)-Type 80N6 bought 2016 when touch screen prices were reasonable"Look after your pennies and your pounds will look after themselves"0

Is the battery charged up?
Have you tried leaving it on charge for a good few hours before retrying?
Does the start button light flash continuously, or does it flash a set number of times?
Are there any long/short flashes?
Is it flashing a different colour to the normal colour it illuminates when the laptop is used?
(It could be emitting a diagnostic code)

Flashing white continuously have tried charging but made no difference. It said somewhere to take battery out and press power button but that would be too technical for me. Also inserted pin in hole on bottom of laptop no joy there either."Look after your pennies and your pounds will look after themselves"0

According to the manual, there are two lights that are relevant
manual - see page 28

check what both of them are doing.
the bigger light on the on/off switch blinking indicates that the computer is in sleep mode. what I said before should restart it. I had a (similar) model here the on off button got stuck in the casing and you had to do an up-and-under angled push to actually get it to engage.
The manual and user guide

both say that there is a hardware button to restore the machine to factory settings (it will kill all your data). As long as the machine hos power, that should work.I haven't checked exactly where it is, but it will be shown in the (long, first link) manual.

ETA
the 'restore to factory conditions' button is on the right side of the machine - it is called the Novo button, number 8 on page 74 of the big (99 page) manual.

Again, it will delete your data.

Is there anything stored on it that you want to keep?
Photos, music, documents, spreadsheets, etc.
If so, my suggested tactic would be to remove, or find someone who can remove, the hard drive, and connect to, or find someone who can connect it to, another working machine with disc space to take a copy or two of your stuff. Ideally two copies, in different places (internal drive, portable drive, USB stick, SD card etc)
Also give some thought as to what software/programs you have, and how you will restore those. Were they pre-installed when you bought the machine, do you have install discs or other means of re-installing them?
Then, and only then, should you consider any of the factory reset or similar options.2
