Luggage free travel -v- courier

We're making an internal flight (not in the UK) and moving a modest amount of stuff. The route is only operated by a budget airline who charge a lot for hold luggage.

Our initial assumption was to take clothes etc in person and box up the rest for a courier to take but then saw an advert for a luggage free company and wondered if anyone has experience of these and if its value for money -v- a courier or other option?

Unfortunately we havent packed up yet so dont know exactly dimensions/weights to do an accurate side by side comparison of costs.

Luggage Shipping: Ship Bags Worry Free with Luggage Free is an example...

From what I can tell the main difference is that they are happy taking suitcases and other non-standard parcels that a regular courier wouldnt ordinarily take plus boxes of "stuff" where as increasingly couriers state mixed personal effects cannot be sent. A friend uses one regularly and has never had any issues with importation taxes etc that you may expect with normal couriers (obv not an issue in this case for me as an internal flight)

I think that company ultimately ships it with FedEx however I have used other "specialist" companies that ultimately use a courier network of some description and they seem to offer services/service levels that the underlying couriers dont offer to direct customers
  • Thanks for the link.

The company promotes itself as a premium service, saving you the time and trouble of checking and collecting baggage. It does not claim to be cheaper. Presumably they know about airline baggage fees and if they could save you any money they would say so.

Preparing luggage for a courier company (using the right kind of boxes and so forth) is a minor pain but the cost-saving often makes it worthwhile. I think only you can decide whether you value convenience more than money.
