DVLA Fine Appeal

Good day

I have recently been informed about a £80 fine for not taxing my vehicle on time through a debt collection agency called Advantis.  This came as a surprise as I set up a direct debit mandate for the DVLA to automatically debit my account upon renewal in 2019.

Searching my emails - I have found 2 emails in my spam folder from "directdebit".  Upon opening it now it states that my direct debit has not automatically renewed.

Upon looking at the facts - it would like to argue that I have reasonable grounds to dispute the penalty as I have instructed, mandated and authorised the DVLA in 2019 to debit my account with the required funds to renew my vehicle tax to intentionally not be in the position of non or late payment.  My account details did not change and I have not been given a reasonable opportunity to remedy the non-payment.  It would be reasonable to receive an escalation phone call or letter rather than hiding behind an automated email that is not clearly marked and gone to a spam folder.

Does anybody have any advice or experience whether this could hold up as a disputed appeal with the DVLA

Much as I hate to say it, with car tax and insurance you don't have much if any wiggle room, the car is either taxed or its not and it's seen as your responsibility to check that it is.
This would include checking online, etc

As the the DVLA penalty, you could try pepipoo as this place mainly deals with private partying company's
