This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Poppy - sorry to read your news, thinking of you all x
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still dark, dry underfoot but cold.
DH and DS1 up and getting ready for work, I'm showered and dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was beef stew and dumplings, mash and veg - lovely it was but dumplings didn't rise and become soft but cheated and used a packet mix - won't do that again! Tonight I'm not sure what we'll be eating but will find something, last working day of my week and pleased for that.
This week has been shall we say event full, there was a incident at work on Tuesday, then another yesterday morning which personally for me I found much more scary - that's in the hands of the powers that be and something I'm told will be done - what I'm not sure but I will be speaking to those above today to get some further support and reassurance that something is going to be done. I'll be pleased to be finished this afternoon that's for sure! Few days off.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning, thanks for starting NMLC, hope your morning at work goes ok, it's sounding a bit scary at the moment. Enjoy your time off.It seems cold this morning, still dark of course. We are going to get the Christmas decs out this morning, tbh neither of us feel very Christmassy, there's a bit of a family situation unfolding that doesn't help but hey ho.We thought we'd buy a decent fibre optic tree, our existing tree is heavy to get out of the loft and fiddly to put together, so we might take the easy way out, and go to B&* tomorrow and have a look at the fibre optics Our days of real trees are over, too messy.Dgs is coming tomorrow, he'll enjoy helping us search for a tree. We tend to put loads of decs up, lighted pictures, andi other stuff, and I take everything off the dresser and Christmas-ify iit if you see what I mean. Sounds tacky I know!!We weren't out at all yesterday, I altered the curtain hems that I'd planned to do and put them up, so that was another job jobbed.I had a Sains voucher for £18 off a £60 minimum shop for either click and collect or delivery, so I did a £63 shop last night for £45, to pick up on the 13th. I thought that was a good offer.I'll have to go out today, there's a little list to fulfil, but we'll get the decs out first, if we leave it it won't get done.Like everyone else, I'm thinking about Dumpling's family a lot, it's so sad for them all. She was held in such high regard by her virtual friends, we'll miss her posts.Hope everyone has as good a day as they can, anyway, take care folks.13

Morning folks. Thanks for starting us off nmlc - those incidents sound awful, I hope you're OK.The sky is so clear that all the stars are visible, it's such a beautiful sight even if it's freezing cold! ⭐️
Yesterday I did a top up shop then I took some recycling to the tip and finally bought a huge bag of sunflower hearts for the birds from the country store. I had bought a new fireside companion set as the tools I had been using weren't very good. The tongs fell apart and the wee brush and shovel set were too small to be useful. The new set has long and sturdy tools and has a stand too.A neighbour's son dropped a wee advent calendar for me, it's a normal card size with tiny wee numbered openings on the front. No chocolate but lots of love.Today will be a mystery, snowy rainy weather is forecasted so perhaps a roaring fire will be enough. I hope that everyone has power now.Thoughts to our poorlies, the missing and those who are sad. Happy Thursday to all.14

            Morning all
Very cold here this morning just above freezing hopefully it wont be icy out, off to work for me and its always cold there as most of the heating does not work, good job we have the oven which helps to warm the place up, they like us to have the doors open too due to covid but its just too cold for that atm.
I am very much looking forward to my day off tomorrow the alarm will be turned off tonight and I can have a lay in which will be bliss, I plan a lazy day, will have a quick tidy up and take the dogs out for a nice long walk and then light the fire and watch a film in the afternoon.
Its my OH's Birthday today we will do presents tonight and we have steak and chips with stilton stuffed mushrooms for dinner, his favourite !
Still thinking of Dumpling and her family xxx
Such a shame Tru did not return for the christmas songs, I miss her xxx

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Your job sounds to go from bad to worse. Hopefully this time it won't be just empty promises from your employers.
The mild spell didn't last long! We are back at freezing point again but it's set to reach the dizzy heights of 2 deg later says the weatherman. Pitch black and daylight gets longer coming day by day. The weather matches my mood too. This morning I woke up full of cold, with much sneezing and nose blowing. That's come from nowhere. Bah! Supposed to be kitchen and bathroom clean day, and resuming the present wrapping but who knows.
I get less Christmassy with every passing year. I used to love it when the kids were little but it wasn't the same when we started losing parents, kids grew up and then when I was left on my own when my dear Bob was taken. It just seems a load of fuss, bother and expense over nothing nowadays. Trimming up days are behind me, it's just the bare minimum now with a few twinkly lights around and a fibre optic tree in the hall. And that's only for the benefit of the DGDs who were mortified the one year I didn't bother!! But first I must tackle a more thorough clean and get the windows sparkling. Now I just need to find the energy!!
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies, poorly loved ones, convalescing and bereaved. Take care one and all and be safe xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"14

Thank you so much for all your lovely messages. What a lovely bunch you are. No further news about the relative in HDU, he remains very ill and confused.
I agree withTA about Christmas not the same these days, used to love it when the children were at home.
having said that I must go out to post cards and buy a couple of small gifts, might include a bottle of Baileys for me!

            Morning everyone
Just as a quickie from me as I finish my breakfast.
Poppy and Csarina thinking of you both.
Just like everyone else I'm thinking of Dumpling's family - her death has affected us all, even though we didn't meet her in person. She always seemed such a lovely lady who adored her family.
Meant to be really cold here today - the wind got up again last night but thankfully has dropped again.
Little one has now been put on steroids for her cough - they seem to have made her hyper! She came for tea last night and we had a lovely cosy half hour afterwards reading all her Christmas stories - she was very interested in baby Jesus and kept saying - 'he looks so cute Granny!'
Hope everyone has a good day x12

Morning, hugs if you need one. Thank you for the messages yesterday, they are very much appreciated. It is so true, you do not miss someone until they are gone. That was the case with Nicholas. He lived 40 miles away and was the transport manager for a Brakes depot. When he had any spare time he would come over with his tools and tackle a list of little jobs. One of the last jobs he did for us was to put curtain rail up over the front door to keep the hall warmer in winter.
Busy day today. We have someone coming from the council to inspect the house and survey the condition. My DGS and his Mum are coming over this morning to assemble my new kitchen table. We will move the old one in to the sitting room until its sold or goes to the furniture exchange. I have put a time limit on it of two weeks, if its not sold I will ring the furniture exchange and get them to come and collect it. Its in very good condition but really too big for the kitchen. I then have to go and get some cash from the Post Office in the next village.
Bright but cold morning, towels in the washer, might put them out if there is a breeze.
Supper tonight is chicken fricassee with pilu rice.11
