Why is one of my rooms so cold?

You don't really want to completely fill the gap to the front edge of the skirting and floor if you want a tidy job done by the carpet fitters. They need somewhere to push the edge of the carpet underneath the skirting. The guys who fitted our carpets were moaning about a lady they'd just come from who had completely filled the gaps, they had to cut the filler out to get a decent finish on the edges.

I wonder if that's the difference in the old carpets and underlay and the more recent stuff.I noticed in this house I'd moved to just how thick the underlay was and the carpets are backed differently.I don't have the draught coming from the skirting. It used to get a rim of grime along the edge where the draught/ventelation worked so well between the floors and ceilings. It took me years to work why that was and filling meant they stayed clean.

The gap on the door was probably made bigger to help prevent damp, unused rooms should not be left closed, 78% humidity is terrable if the is no leak, leave the door open with the dehumidifier on 24/7 for a week and then on a timer if the water it collets reduces.

I don't know, but would have thought - if you wanted to dry out that specific room as much as possible, then you'd keep the doors and windows shut when using a dehumidifier in there?
