I've had solar PV for over 10 years now.  Initially my FIT was paid by npower but my supplier was Ovo, who fitted a SMETS1 smart meter about 8 years ago.
You should be OK, if I remember correctly, SMETS1 export metering was not considered accurate enough to force a switch from deemed to metered, but SMETS2 does have the required certification.

I do now have a nice shiny brand new SMETS2 meter fitted by Symbio back in June.

Unfortunately, they failed to commission it properly, so it sits there dumb.

    I submit monthly readings manually.

Apparently Eon are going to get it working properly one day.

Where’s this information come from? I know of a number of people who are being paid SEG via Secure SMETS1 meters (adopted and not adopted).

It was specifically in reference to the FiT scheme, I'd have to go digging for the source but it was something to do with the certification at the time as the meters were somewhat rushed into use and export just wasn't a priority.
I don't think there is actually anything wrong with the export metering on SMETS1 and it certainly isn't a problem with SEG.
Edit: OK did a little digging, the original problem was that most of the SMETS1 operators (the SMSO) did not support remote access to export register reads from SMETS1 meters, so they were not considered fit for purpose in respect to the terms of the FiT agreement.
That was some time ago of course, and DCC registration is a thing now as well so things have changed.
