Good morning everyone
It's a strange feeling that none of this Christmas has gone on credit. I need to make sure that none of it ever does going forward so I may need another pot for Christmas food ready for next year. I do overbuy but the HT and his friends have helped out by eating the Christmas snacks three times so far. I have hidden snack run number four in my bedroom....The freezer is so full that I can't fit anything else in it. I'm calling it good preparation for not having a job after the first week in January.
Best friend is coming today so the HT can give him his present (alcohol), then we'll have lunch and go back to his house to swap our presents, feed the wildlife and have coffee and a chat in peace. The HT was moaning because I am going to my doctor friend's house for a couple of hours on Christmas Eve. Friend has been busy with no time for visitors (she's a hospital consultant) so it's Christmas Eve or nothing. I offered for the HT to come too but even though he's very fond of her he pulled a face. Luckily one of the snack eaters mums has invited him to their house and I'll collect him on my way home. Friend's mum has even bought him new pjs so he can join in with their Christmas Eve tradition. I've bought her a bottle of vodka because she'll be on her own with three teens amd two littlies. It's a lovely offer though and we are lucky to have such good friends.
So after a week of feeling a bit stunned that I have no debt (and no job) and coming to a bit of a standstill I've started planning. My immediate plan is to save as much as possible. I have money in an account for gas and electric and I want to add to that too. I want to have the boiler replaced with a combi bolier and the water tank taken out of the loft but I'd like to be able to do that and still have money left in my emergency fund. I will also need a newer car at some point as mine is 10 years old (and still passing MOTs without any advisories).
I can claim my (reduced) civil service pension now if I want to but I'm going to wait until my next birthday in May and see how the finances are then. The HT finishes his course in June so no more pension for him and no more child benefit. I've told him that he needs a job. I have to go and clean now ready for friend visiting. At least it's raining so he won't notice anywhere that I've missed dusting 😂
Take care all of you 😊4 -
I put away oddments all year round to pay for Christmas. I’ve been doing this for a few years now but in the past everything went on the cc and I spent a good couple of months paying it off.The snack eater’s mum will definitely need vodka after looking after that lot 😆I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)4

Merry Christmas to you all.
I have been given a lot of gin in assorted flavours and some other lovely presents. Best present of all was that this was finally the year when the HT slept past 7am. We didn't get up until 10am and I had to wake him up 🤣 It's almost time to make the dinner. The HT will be having pigs in blankets and yorkshire puddings with his dinner. I will be having gin with mine.
Take care all of you 😊4 -
My son was up before the grandkids. My 8yo granddaughter asked for gin for Christmas Day breakfast 🤣 She’s starting young, keeps asking when she’ll be old enough to drink it.Hope you have a fabulous day, at least you won’t run out of gin 😆🍸I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)4
