Christmas lights

Hi , I purchased 2 sets of Xmas lights ( indoor) costing £40 on  November 24th 2020. They were used over a 3 week period .
My issue is they no longer work.
Really disappointed to say the least.
The retailer ( B&M) customer services says that this is just unfortunate and nothing can be done as they were only covered by a year's warranty.
Do I face facts that this is unfortunate and they now belong in the bin ?
.Thanks for reading .

After 6 moths its up to you to prove the item is inherently faulty, the cost of doing this is recoverable as part of your claim however obviously if it shows its a dead battery or bulb then they are consumables and so almost certainly not unreasonable for them to fail and as such the report would be your cost to cover.

Are they LED lights or ? Battery or mains?
  • Thank you Sandtree
    These are the lights.
  • They are plug in.

It seems odd that both sets have failed. Have you checked fuses, batteries in remotes etc.
  • Hi , yes , changed batteries in the remote. Checked all the bulbs and wiring. Checked fuses. Checked fuses in our mains socket. We have done everything possible.
There is no power from the plug unit to the lights.

Have they been stored in the loft since January?  Is it possible that dampness has corroded a cable or component?  I'd guess at an external factor like that, given that both have been affected in the same way.

They are selling them again this year, same box and (surprisingly) same price.

Someone less honest than the OP might buy two new sets then take the faulty ones back next week...

Who would do such a thing ? 🤷‍♀️
