Chromebooks and .odt files

While we were on Windows laptops, we used LibreOffice for all our docs, so unless they're PDFs, they're all .odt files. Now we've gone over to Chromebooks, what format's best to convert those files to so we have the option to open them in the future on any laptop, and what's the best way of doing that? If we can readily edit those files after conversion, that would be a bonus, and if we can do it all without buying software that's even better!
We're all doomed

You can import them into Google Drive and edit them with Google Docs.
One of the beauties of the Open Document Format.
