Flight to Vienna 10-12th of December Ryanair - can't go because of lockdown - cancellation/refund ?

I booked a flight for a weekend in Vienna days before they announced the country was going into lockdown on the 22nd of November for a minimum of 10 days and a maximum of 20. Today they announced lockdown is extended to the 23rd of December which means I will not be able to go (as I understand only people with valid reason can travel, tourism not being one of them and obviously everything will be shut).
I booked with Ryanair and it would seem that unless they cancel the flight I will not get a refund and travel insurance will not cover for this either.
Can anyone advise if there is anything I can do to ensure I get at least some of my money back and if so how ?
I did not book hotel so in this instance I am only seeking advice regarding flight refund.
Thanking you in advance for any helpful advice in this stressful time.

If your travel insurance doesn't cover it, then you're out of options unfortunately.

I'm with zx81. Unless your travel insurance covers it you won't have a chance getting the money back from Ryanair. Highly unlikely they will cancel the flight, which is the only reason they would have to offer you a refund.
  • I was hoping the Zero Flight change fee would apply as I cannot travel due to the country being visited being in lockdown...but at the moment it is only for flights booked before the 30th of June 2021 :(

it's for changes for tickets bought before 30th September but you can only change to other 2021 date

    https://www.ryanair.com/gb/en/useful-info/no-change-fee#!

You can make 2 flight changes without being charged a flight change fee for bookings made between 10 June 2020 and prior to 30 September 2021, for travel before 31 December 2021.

Flight changes must take place at least 7 days before the original scheduled departure dates. Changes to 2022 excluded. Fare and product price difference may apply.
