car insurance - business
Hi, my daughter has just started driving and has social insurance only. She has been asked to occasionally drive for work.. so should she add business insurance to the existing one? with same insurer or can it be different? You cannot get a straight answer from various suppliers...
And another thing, she has a ltd company so could she apply separately under that name??
Any help much appreciated, thank you

The norm is to just add business to her existing policy which normally costs peanuts other than possibly the admin fee for a mid term adjustment.
If the company doesnt own the car then it'd be questionable what their insurable interest is in the vehicle as unlike a natural person, the company itself cannot drive the car and cause a loss to the legal owner (which is an insurable interest)2 -
Adding business use to my policy costs just £10 a year extra. It's not a big deal, unless your business is high risk.1

When you say she has social insurance does she have commuting as well as without that she should not be using he car to even drive to work.
As regards business use then yes, add it to her existing policy, although if she doesn't have commuting she'll need to add that first.1 -
Hi, she uses train to travel to work now so just social driving when at home. Will check with her insurers if both commuting snd business are needed if she takes up this other job. Thank you0

If she needs to add business use then she will need to add commuting first. Search for a post by Sandtree but insurance is sold by order of cover so:
Social, Domestic & Pleasure,
+ Commuting
+ Business.

Commuting is likely to be a problem as the OP states they work for their own Ltd and so travelling to their client's site would be considered business use not commuting as its not their permanent place of work - that'd be wherever their Ltd is based and my guess would be thats their home address.fabitre said:Hi, she uses train to travel to work now so just social driving when at home. Couldn't quite work out the significance of having her own company as wasn't clear where that came into the picture.Sandtree said:

I. E does she work for employer A directly in which case I'd assumed the company was irrelevant or does she contract with the employer via her company in which case agreed it is relevant.
Won't know the exact answer unless we get an update on the thread.0 -
I am assuming she is a contractor outside IR35 and so is an employee/director of her company and the "place of work" is her company's client and not legally her own... though as you say it'd require clarificationGrumpyDil said:
