I have the exact floor you're looking at - its not glued down anywhere (apart from the stairs) - and its been fine for years. Most people think I have a wood floor!

I'm actually replacing the subfloors in the bathrooms at some point as they're chipboard and past their sell by date. Looking to replace with plywood. I can certainly make sure they're level, that's not a problem. I'm certainly not one to shy away from a bit of DIY (knocked down a stud wall last weekend and built another, including moving a socket) but I've just heard mixed opinions on this. I'd happy tile the floor but a few people have recommended this to me as an alternative.
Apologies OP, I have hijacked your thread a bit here but I'd assume all the above is relevant for you as well anyway!1 -
It's all good info, so no worries Gavin. Good, too, to have a positive result Tehome.I suspect that if (a) the subfloor is dead flat and (b) there is no boisterous movement in one particular area, the loose-lay will stay laid quite happily.Nan won't entertain it laid that way now, tho', having had both the recommended layers in this area say the same thing, coupled with some feedback on here. She's found 'Smoked Beech' in Karndean's Van Gogh range - glue down - which she's getting a sample of, and will compare it with the Rustic L-L. It'll be chosen on aesthetics, and the winner will be... glued down.1

'Smoked Beech' is too dark, and her previous fav - the Rustic Oak looselay - I've just realised doesn't have bevels, so will be literally aesthetically flat. So that's out too...Been to the bungie, and the floors are concrete/screed, and look in very good order. The Painter/Decor we met there also turns out to do floors, and recommended QuickStep as it's vinyl, clicks together, and is fully waterproof when laid. He also explained that his method of fitting it has him removing all the skirting boards first, and rebating under the door frames - so top marks to this guy so far.Sooo, any experience of QuickStep, anyone?!
