Royal Mail tracking

Hi. Hoping for some advice. I placed an order with Ebay. It was a tracked delivery.

I received notifications from Ebay and Royal Mail that it had been signed for and delivered, when no one was at home.  The signature on the tracking info is from the Postie as that's what they are doing now.

I contacted Royal Mail and initially was told they could see from the Postie's GPS that when it was signed for they weren't at my house, and that they would follow it up and get back to me hopefully with the parcel.

I contacted the seller, who naturally just told me the tracking days it was delivered. Ebay have closed the case but I can appeal if I get more evidence that it wasn't delivered to my address.

I'm still waiting for a response from Royal Mail and have now lodged a complaint.

Any suggestions? How can Royal Mail say it was delivered when it wasn't signed by anyone at my address?? It's bonkers. That's not proof of delivery.

Thanks.

We actually put a note on our door saying packages can be left in our porch, but our postie says they are no longer permitted to leave items which need to be signed for, and sign themselves.  That has been the situation for some time now.

They ought to be doing the usual of leaving a card and taking it back to the delivery office.

They would revert to the pre-Covid system of leaving a card to advise it has been taken back to the sorting office.  We are here most of the time so it's not a major problem.
