Skimming and tiling quote fair?

Options
Hi there,

We're looking to get our bathroom walls skimmed over the top of thick artex which is floor to ceiling (though not looking to get the ceiling itself done to save money, especially as the rest of the house has it anyway), but also have a small area retiled.

The work would include removing the old tiles which we're looking to get replaced with standard size white tiles (200mm X 200mm) - again to hopefully keep the cost down.

Room dimensions are:

1620mm width

2200mm length

2500mm height

Tiled area (to be replaced) dimensions are:

Back wall - 1620mm width

Left wall - 670mm width

Right wall - 700mm width

Height for all tiled areas - 1400mm

So far we've only received 1 quote (more on the way) which is coming out at £1,500 excluding the tiles but including the plaster, grout and mastic (so some materials). This is based on 4 days (5 days maximum we've been told) and 2 men working on it.

I've asked for a properly broken down quote as this is all the information we've been given so far.

Obviously we will wait for at least 2 more quotes and we have other contacts in mind but does this seem to be about the average?

Is this a service that places like Topps Tiles or other high street brands could offer?

Many thanks!

Assuming 4 days, that works out at ~£185 per man per day - Not outlandish, and about the going rate. Make sure it is a fixed price, and then you won't get charged extra if it does run to a 5 day job.

Ok thanks for the feedback and also for the tip about fixing prices. As I say it's early days (we have more quotes coming) and that isn't even the final quote including all materials yet.
