I just bought a second bed (nearly new) the bed was in an old woman's house who had died 6 months ago the daughter told me the house had a damp problem but the bed hadn't been used ever.
The mattress smells of damp any ideas how to get rid of the smell?

I went for two whole hog for a totally different reason.
Sprinkle heavily with baking soda, 1pound. Leave for a few days. If you have to sleep on it it won't hurt you.
Use a steam cleaner on the fabric. You will have to wait a while for it to dry.
Spray with a lavender essential oil.
Maybe steam again.
If the smell is that bad still it seems odd that it's got right into the depths of it.
If it's still there time to get another mattress.
Charity shops do good clean ones as do furniture exchange for people on benefits or others.
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!
viral kindness .....kindness is contageous pass it on
The only normal people you know are the ones you don’t know very well

The mattress is unused seems a waste as you can tell nobody used it.Im gonna put it outside when the weather gets warmer see if that takes away the smell0

Cover the mattress in bicarbonate of soda, I found using a sieve is handy, leave for 24 hrs or more then vacuum up.
Personally though, and as others have said, I'd go for new a mattress, purely for hygiene reasons.1
