Imagine you're staycationing in a pleasant market town. The place is steeped in history.
How much would you expect to pay - or how much would you be willing to pay - for a guided walk around the town?
The
tour will take 90 minutes and visit the well-known buildings and some
less-well-known but interesting places as well. No more than 10 in the
group. No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...

Depends where in the world it is, exactly whats included, language options, a company offering many options or one man band doing just one option.
Randomly looking at Rye for such a place most the on man band tours are c2hrs, inc entry to the museum (no idea if that is normally free or not) and costs £10pp
Feels about the right order of magnitude depending on any entrance fee... if you can add something food or craft related etc then there is the potential to charge more. I know in some places the businesses dont charge anything to the tour for doing a short demo/talk and free samples obviously in the hope that the tour members then buy in the shop etc.

Agree with Sandtree, £10 pp max sounds about right, although personally I would prefer to make my own way round a town, rather than having a guided tour.If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales1

Wow, £10 per person and 10 people, £100 for 90 minutes of work. In our area guides do it for free and just ask for a donation, not sure how much they end up getting.1

Plus thats great if you get 10 people but how much time and effort do you have to put in to get 10 people? How many tours can you do in a day? What proportion of those are 2 people to 10 people?
Its a common mistake of the new small business owner to think things like £100 for 90 mins work, £67/hr is great etc and not factor in all the rest of the time they have to work creating that business which is unpaid or the gaps between tours thats also unpaid.2 -
Thank you, some useful thoughts.

£12 for 2 hours for a Theatre Walk here - which boils down to an actor leading the walk and doing the odd dramatic reading.
There's another recent offering which is pricier but includes a signed copy of the walk leader's book. I'm offput by the price because I already have the book, and no need of another copy.Signature removed for peace of mind1 -
Thanks all.lincroft1710 - I'm interested as to why you would prefer to make your own way around a town. Would you do a self-guided tour? Or do you just prefer to wander at will? And just to put comeandgo's mind at rest (and totally agreeing with Sandtree), £10 per person for 10 people doesn't equate to £100 for 90 minutes' work, lovely though that would be. There are overheads, obviously. And s/he's rather assuming that every tour will be full, with no concessionary tickets...Nevertheless, from the research I've done so far, I would hope to break even at some point during the second quarter of Year Two, based on very conservative sales figures. Still developing the idea, but happy with it so far.No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0

Having lived in 2 historic towns, I don't always want to see the well known "places/buildings of interest", there are other buildings which interest me.If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales1
