This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still dark, dry underfoot but no frost like yesterday - although the air felt very cold still last night, I haven't opened the door as yet this morning, so not sure exactly how cold it is!
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, DS1 up and getting ready for work, I'm showered and dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night breaded chicken portions, pasta in a creamy mushroom sauce and veg rice, nice to have something different. Tonight will be fish and tomorrow night beet stew as long as I remember to get the beef out to defrost then put it on to cook in the ninja in the morning.
Work wasn't too bad, the big thing that was supposed to be happening was cancelled - so that's taken the pressure off.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Much milder this morning but wet with it. Still, I'm going swimming before work so I'll be wet anyway!
What a worry that would have been for you TA, glad everyone is safe.
Hope you're all now connected with water, power, etc.
My next door neighbour's son is getting married on Friday, they have had multiple dates cancelled including one in Cyprus so they've hurriedly sorted out the registry office and evening do for Friday. Neighbour came to invite me to the evening do, very local so will go along with some other neighbours.
Not much going on here, DS2 and DP have booked their flights so now it's a waiting game!
Happy Tuesday, take care. XX12 -
Good morning, thanks for starting NMLC.It's not as cold this morning, there's no frost thank goodness.I'm visiting a couple of friends this morning, one of them has a birthday next week so I'll take her card, so might as well take her Christmas card as well. Her sister lives nearby so I'll take her Christmas card, that'll be 2 off my hands. I've only written those two so far.I've been awake half the night, so will be yawning my head off later.Yesterday I did quite a bit of general housework, then went to collect Dgd from school, it was the usual Monday routine. How fast the weeks slip away though. The friends we're visiting live near a Li*l, so i think I'll pop in for one or two things and see what they've got in the "middle", it's always interesting!Thinking of our poorly people, also of Dumpling's family.Take care folks.13

Morning folks and thanks NMLC.
After 4 days of gales, storms, power cuts, arctic blizzards and now rain, life should be returning to normal service today! After days of minus temps we have now shot up to a tropical 9 and that, together with the rain, has seen off almost all of the lying snow. Hallelujah!
So today is Tuesday and no snow to prevent me meeting my oldest buddy in town for our usual coffee, natter and lunch date. It will be interesting to see how many on the bus and shops are adhering to the new mandatory mask wearing rule. Although some of us never stopped!
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for our poorlies, poorly loved ones, convalescing and bereaved. Thinking as always of DUMPLING's family. Such sad times for them all. Take care one and all and stay safe xx

We are due a milder day today its meand to get up to 12 deg so different to yesterday where it did not get above freezing all day.
Had a good first full day in my cafe although I was completly shattered when I got in last night and slept like a log all night and really struggled to get up this morning !
Off to work today for more of the same but a very difficult client in today who is very hard work so not such an enjoyable day.
Beef casserole for dinner tonight I shall put it in the SC before work so it will all be ready when we get in I will just heat up some part baked rolls to go with it.
DW to empty this morning and I will put a wash on before I go.
TA so glad the family are all ok xxx
Have good days all xx12 -
Good morning all, we have missed all the snow here, but the storm has done a lot of damage, a dozen or so trees at a local beauty spot overlooking the river, castle and town have been felled or badly damaged, The Medieval Fayre, which is a huge thing locally with coaches of people coming from miles away was wiped out, marquees flattened, stalls and stocks destroyed. A lovely neighbour is having major works done on her bungalow had bought a caravan and had it set up in the garden, with a big awning, to live in for a few months, she had gone away earlier in the week. The wind has destroyed the awning and everything set up in the awning, tumble dryer, extra kitchen stuff etc got very wet, she is not back yet, I hope someone has been able to contact her. 2 lovely neighbours and the builders were there in the gales and pouring rain on Saturday morning trying to sort it out.
Usual boring stuff today, a bit of shopping, will walk into town for the exercise and to actually see people rather than DOH and the dog. Yesterday I got stuck into sorting and clearing "stuff" while OH spent most of the day in the garden collecting leaves (collection no. 6), but all off the trees now and rescuing things that had blown around, we were lucky - no damage here.
Have the best day possible, hugs and spoons, particularly to Dumpling's family. The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)11 -
Morning everyone no frost or snow here but I don’t like these dark days off to work in a minute very busy but not as much heavy work in at the moment hopefully it will stay that way thinking of all the poorlies stay safe and warm everyone10

Morning all,
A bit warmer today – TA you have a tropical 9 degrees and like Ruby we are due 12 degrees whoohoo! Enjoy your trip out.
Dp1 – annoying about the water going off again. Glad that DDs friend could help with the damaged garden fence and shed. DSis and I also had Pippa dolls. I especially loved the Pippa Princess with the extra long hair!
Lovely photo of the advent crown Gers
Good luck with the nativity costumes Florence – tight deadline!
The inevitable happened last night. DH was in York for a few days last week. Of the 8 in a meeting lastTuesday, 6 had tested positive for Covid as of yesterday afternoon. DH has been testing and all negative, until last night when he had two lines, one of which was very feint. He made up DDs room and luckily we have two bathrooms. He will go for a PCR locally this morning just to make sure. Thankfully he is double jabbed so he just feels like he has a head cold without the runny nose.
DS2 (17 and single jabbed) and I (double jabbed) both tested negative. I was meant to go to the office in London today, but have cancelled it. Will keep DS1 home to remote study – luckily it’s all set up, so he won’t miss anything. We will keep testing to see what’s what.
So today will be mostly working with bouts of delivering supplies to DH! Luckily we have plenty of food in!
Hope everyone is managing to stay warm. Have a good day all.

Morning everyone
My water came back on about 10pm last night- looking forward to a soak in the bath tonight - I'll just have a quick shower this morning. I have bottled water left - it will go into the shed at some point - at the minute the doors are propped up with a heavy planter so I'll just leave them alone!
So I have another day off but plenty of jobs to do - didn't actually do any Christmas wrapping yesterday - so will hopefully do some later.
Will be back in tomorrow as the water has come on down in the village where school is in the early hours this morning.
Seems to be milder this morning but forecast to be freezing again the next couple of days.
Well I'm going to move myself - hope everyone has a good day x12 -
Morning folks.DP1 - 🎉🎉 enjoy your bath.TA - a day out with your friends sounds good after the snow and ice.Camelot - great news about DS, I hope he can make it.Coxy - what a shame for your DH, 🤞 for the rest of the family being clear.Ruby - well done on getting through Monday.Maddie - what lovely neighbours there. It's much milder here too though 10° is as good as it'll be. I'm glad that I cancelled my appointment and can stay here and be cosy.My thoughts are with all our poorlies and missing. Happy St. Andrew's day.12

Morning
So much warmer here today thank goodness
Bad night last night with of all things heartburn but unbearable heartburn that made me sick a few times
Very little sleep so I'll try a snooze this afternoon. One of the doctors in hospital took me off a drug that prevented heartburn and its been bad ever since to a point I'm becoming reluctant to eat now so its time to have a word with the GP and get it reinstated. On a positive the weight is the lowest its been for years...every cloud and all that.
Had the boiler serviced this morning and all is well. He did his usual sell on a new combi but even he said mine will probably last a few more years so no point yet...I had no intention of anyway!
I have another couple of stroke calls today then maybe a trip to the bin exciting huh.
Food is debatable I'll get back to you on that
Have a good day all12
