I did give it a smell test ...no burning smell .
It doesnt have a dual voltage switch
The plug is std USA
I dont think it has a position or lid that must be shut for it too work but I could be wrong on this as I have never had it working .0 -
That photo shows a US plug, so how did anyone plug it in to a 230V outlet? (Via an adaptor)?Jenni x0

The photo is a random internet photo of the same appliance so posters replying have a idea .
As stated at thread start I have a step down transformer rated at 300w where the Bodum grinder is 150w .
When I plugged the grinder in via the step down transformers usa socket it was double dead ,not even a buzz absolutely nothing, zero .
Maybe it has a fuse somewhere but until I get longer torx set to open it up I am just hunting for opinions or advice as am hopeful but not electrical....... I also realise it may be shot .
I would like to save it and use it as it looks as good as the one in the photo but it all could be a bridge to far

My comment was in relation to a previous owner of the grinder, not you. I thought that was obvious. In fact I even said so in a previous reply. 🙄
If there's no "aroma" on it then you might be lucky. But there's only one way to check - nobody here can give you definitive advice.Jenni_D said:Did it have a UK plug on it? Or does it come with a kettle lead? (If the latter then that would explain how it could have been connected to 230V; if the former and it is a fixed lead, the US plug would have had to be removed which should have been a big clue to the previous owner).Jenni x0 -
It has no electrical burning smell at all or kettle lead but in the uk adaptors seem everywhere these days so one could of been used into a uk 3 pin socket
Previous owner isnt a option for info but it sure would have been useful
Maybe USA items do have a fuse inside of some kind?
.
I wasnt looking for definates just possibilitys or avenues to check out in hope I may be lucky.
The odds are stacked against me but I thought its worth asking the electrically minded on here .0 -
There are several things that could have failed:
1. your step-down transformer (do you have a way to test it?)
2. the power-on button
3. any interlock switches on the funnel (top) and container (side)
4. any internal fuses
5. the motor itself
In the end it is simply a motor with an on / off switch so the fault might not be difficult to find. With the right test equipment (a multi-meter for a start)1 -
You know that the timer dial needs to be turned up as well for it to work?0

Thanks for all the help on this from everyone.
I will give it another attempt using the step down transformer (which hasnt been tested recently but very likely is good to go) before pulling it apart.
Givern the Bodum grinder red power light comes on when its plugged into the 120v step down transformer im sure the transformer is ok .
I forgot to mention this earlier.

You can test the step down transformer with a table lamp with an old style incandescent light bulb.If you are going to rummage inside the grinder you would ideally have a multi meter. However, you can make up a continuity tester with a torch bulb and battery, if necessary. We have several coffee grinders, accumulated over the years, and they all have several interlocks to prevent people grinding their fingers. So, make sure everything is properly closed. It may even sense whether there’s any coffee beans inside. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0
