Now its 3 months down the line and we've all got used to using it has
anyone actually had any real problems ? Is your mpg up/down/same? For
me the mpg in my Picanto is up in the low 50's and thats not on any long
journeys.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

Unless you are doing exactly the same journey, at the same time with the same weather and traffic it is impossible to say how much of an influence the change in fuel type has on mpg.

As E10 is less energy dense, fuel economy will be a little worse for everyone. There is no way around that, unless you change the way you drive. 2-3% down seems to be the quoted figure.
At my local Tesco, E5 99RON is just under 5% more expensive than E10, so if you have a car than befits from 99RON if may be the cheaper option.0 -
Mine is designed to run on E10, I can’t say I’ve noticed any difference to fuel economy, maybe even slightly better, my driving style hasn’t changed and I cover the same route every day.0

I was getting 52 to gallon average over a 6 month period, my average since using E10 is 470

Probably about right, the weather is cooler now, which uses more fuel to warm up the engine, so most of the 10% difference could be down to the weather, and 3% could be the fuel.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

I do about 2500 miles a month so the average is over quite a few miles1 -
Not being a mechanic I'm confused by mileage. Assuming its a continental car, and many are, then would the E5 be giving a better mileage than the E10 ? And would the loss of 3% be the car performing at the rate it should?

And would the loss of 3% be the car performing at the rate it should?However in the UK E5 is 97 or more RON, so if you have a car that can adjust for this it will run at a higher compression so operate more efficiently. That means it will need less revs to produce the same power ( or produce more power at the same revs) than when 95RON. Using less revs uses less petrol so better MPG.So if E5 super unleaded cost 5% more than E10 and and you have a suitable vehicle, you will be financially better off filling up with E5.1

MPG is worse local running but motorway runs are no different or not much. Anybody tried mixing them?

In the UK, we measure economy, miles travelled per gallon of fuel, and call it consumption. More mpg means less fuel used and more economical.Everybody else measures consumption, litres of fuel used travelling 100km. (smaller is better)I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
