promised repairs not done to second hand car

HI, my husband and i have just bought a 2019 Ford Tourneo with 32k from a dealer. The salesman was using it as his daily drive so when we did our two test drives it was quite dirty but we did notice some paintwork  issues ,  stone chips and a badly repaired gouge on the bonnet and a couple of other small areas needing repainted. The salesman told us not to worry as "it will be like new " when we pick it up. Unfortunately it was wet when  we collected it so it looked ok and it wasnt until we saw it clean and dry that we saw just how bad the paintwork is... not just a lot of stone chips on the bonnet but about 5 areas where the paint is "crazed". Only one of the other areas was retouched and even that was not very well done. Do we have any recourse against the dealer? We have just sold  our   4 years old car that was  almost perfect and  dont think a 3 year old vehicle should have paintwork like this . We phoned the dealer today but he didnt seem to keen to help but he has asked for pictures and we have sent them off.

Sounds like he did the work you requested but did a poor job which you should have rejected
    before taking delivery.

Tricky one to reclaim anything without time/expense and hassle if they do not offer to get the
    job done properly.

  • ty, sorry my point is that he didnt do any work apart from one little area that he did badly . Just left everything else untouched . also ,as i said it was wet so there was no way we could see it wasnt done,.. unless we took a chamoise with us of course lol . the areas I mentioned were already badly repaired . He promise to get them sorted "like new"

As much as you might not enjoy reading this. The time to check the quality of the work was at the point of pre-purchase.
  • np ty. We have just learned a couple of VERY  expensive lessons, 1 .do not look at a vehicle in the wet and 2 .dont trust anything a  second hand  dealers  says!  Just have to stick to new cars. its a pity as we paid the deposit on our credit card just in case of problems but didnt know it only covered purchase under £30,000. Ah well ,thats life  x ps anyone know a reasonable paintshop pmsl x

That's been a given for as long as I have been driving - and I passed my test in 1979.
  • mem62, ty , I passed around the same time . Hubby before that in 1972, ,just  hoped things had moved on for the better especially with all the new consumer regs. But  the good new is the dealer  wants to see it on Thursday after reviewing the photos we sent. So fingers crossed we get something done. Thing is it was raining again today and the paintwork looks absolutely fantastic when wet so we will defo be taking a supply of cloths to dry it off.
