Question on being a guarantor on a Student let

    When DD was at uni there  was a similar request.one of the parents challenged it and told the landlord they were only prepared to guarantee their child’s portion of the rent.  Landlord caved.

    Whilst that seems sensible not sure how it would pan out with most student situations, especially when there's a lack of reasonable accommodation. My DD had to secure accommodation in the February for the following September each year.

    In my experience both of being a student way back when and having student daughters it’s pretty standard to be booking accommodation in February for the following student year.  Of course I have no idea whether this particular landlord would accept a more limited guarantee, but there’s no harm in trying is there?

    As mentioned previously, that could be because the landlord already had full guarantees signed by, say, 7 out of 8 parents.

    So the landlord was happy with 7 guarantors and didn't really care too much what the 8th signed or whether they signed at all.


    But if all 8 parents said they wanted those terms, perhaps the landlord would have refused.
