Dodl: AJ Bell to launch easy to use, commission-free app

Not weird at all - it's no different from Halifax having separate price structures for its own and IWeb brands (with the same underlying platform), and there are plenty of examples in other industries of organisations offering differential pricing, either for the same thing (e.g. demand-driven variable airline or train fares) or quality variances (e.g. supermarket brand ladders), so the mere fact that AJ Bell are running a two-tier model isn't inherently wrong....curious_squirrel said:If they can do this for 0.15% then am I paying too much for my AJ Bell accounts?! Depending on your transaction frequency, and assuming no transactions, you will need more than £4800 in your LISA for Dodl to be cheaper than AJB (obviously if you make regular transactions then this might be moot).curious_squirrel said:If they can do this for 0.15% then am I paying too much for my AJ Bell accounts?! I am strangely quite annoyed about Dodl having a £1pm minimum platform charge. Small things eh?
Was going to talk the now adult child in to opening a LISA with Dodl and migrating some of the monies from the (now) ISA in to a Dodl LISA, but it can wait until next March / April so that two years worth can be contributed in a relatively short period (from a charges perspective). Tight, me, nah.Personal Responsibility - Sad but True

A product targeted at a younger generation of investor.0

In conclusion: yes, it seems a bit weird to me, too

I am sure the AJ Bell board are aware that Youinvest will lose some customers to Dodl and pay lower charges . I think in marketing speak it is known as cannibalisation. The gamble is to pick up more, newer, probably younger investors to compensate .

I'm over 40, don't have a smart phone and am feeling both old-fashioned and geriatric today
