  • President spreadable doesn’t taste like butter tho. We have just finished a tub and won’t be going back for more.

Sorry. I have given you the wrong name

The one we have now is MnS Softer Butter

    Ingredients: Butter(milk), Salt (1.8%)

It says it has been churned under carefully controlled conditions.

The President one can be elusive but most often tracked down in Sainsbury's

I hate the ones with oil.  They make toast soggy.

ETA - I think perhaps President tastes different because it's either unsalted or slightly salted ( I forget which). I like it but DH prefers Marks

Hi Nels, we use The Butter Works softer butter and keep it in a pottery butter dish. There is no heating in the kitchen but it was still soft enough to spread this morning.

M & S softer butter (not spreadable) is made from milk from cows on a special diet. It isn't quite as soft as the spreadable as those made with oil but softer than block butter.
    Ingredients
Butter (Milk), Salt (1.8%), Minimum 80% Milk Fat
  • You can get  plug in heated butter dishes. A bit extravagant,  at nearly fifty pounds, but possibly worth it if it stops a daily irritation. I have seen much cheaper battery operated versions so do look around first.

Draw the business end across the top of the block of butter and you get a thin curl of butter which is much easier to spread.

We're using the M & S Softer Butter atm too. I take it out of the fridge about half an hour before using it though, if I remember.

I find Anchor Spreadable tastes exactly like the Anchor block butter. It does to me at any rate  :)

    Large Butter Knife!

    Crumpet, toasted!

    Add Marmite to taste.

    Hope that settles it!
