Butter or Spreadable Butter

Options
My tastebuds have changed lately due to health problems and after years of eating spreadable butter either Lurpak or Country life I suddenly started to really taste the oil in them. (odd I know)

Anyway I'm now buying butter in its original form which tastes so much better for me The only problem is how hard it is to spread (that will be why they invented the spreadable I guess) I don't keep it in the fridge but it stays pretty hard making holes in the bread. Nobody wants a chip butty with holes in trust me!

First world problem I know. Anyone else use butter and how do you avoid holy bread  :)

Zap it in the microwave for a couple of seconds and the top will be soft enough to use.  Or you could just cut off a small amount and do the same if you don’t want to put the block in repeatedly.

Yes thanks I've done this and it works but just wondering if anyone stores it differently. I remember as a kid always having the butter dish there and usable IYSWIM
Also interested to know if others use butter or spreadable.
  • I keep ours in a stainless-steel butter dish in a wall cupboard in kitchen and it seems to stay spreadable without being too hot or cold all year round.  We have no heat in the kitchen as it was an extra cupboard or a radiator, so cupboard won so although gets warm from cooking it never gets to hot and I am always opening back door to let smells out or leaving it open for dogs (although at moment they are happily staying under my duvet even with jumpers on).  I found stainless steel butter dish seems to be better than pottery one for keeping butter the same temp.
Need to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch

    Mine too.

I was lucky enough to find one in a chazzer for 50p a few months ago - came out of the dishwasher sparkling!

President spreadable has single cream instead I'll kook out for that Happycas :)
  • I keep mine in a china butter dish, but it is affected by the ambient temp so it's sometimes a bit firm in winter/soft in summer.  I think there is something called a butter crock that uses water to store it, but I've never tried one.  Perhaps the answer would be this - an insulated butter dish?

I have the Lakeland butter dish in the previous post and can confirm its excellent. I confess to buying it originally as I wanted a butter dish with a lid. Rather than a cover over the butter, if that makes sense.I was a little hesitant at the price but I have had it a good while now and it's as good as new. I find it keeps the butter at a good spreading consistency out of the fridge.  Although it was not so good on really hot days.
