Taking Ring Through Customs from UK to EU and back

Hello all,
I recently ordered a ring from Turkey which I would like to give to partner when we go on holiday in the EU next month.
I have paid customs duties/VAT on the ring to get it delivered to the UK.
My question is will I have any problems bringing a ring in its box in my carry on luggage into the EU (and back into the UK).
I can obviously bring the paperwork with me, but would like to avoid being stopped as this will spoil the surprise so any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

Why are you going to be stopped? Little you can do if you are.0

You are right but I have been wading through lots of webpages about bringing goods into the EU and couldn't be sure if there was anything I was missing about needing to declare/pay more duties on expensive jewellery.0

Put the ring in your wallet, they wont search through the coin section of it. But I agree, chances of being stopped are tiny.0

Take photos of the ring with the receipt and any other paperwork. Keep that on your phone to show in the unlikely event of being stopped. There is absolutely nothing you can do if you are stopped. Attempting to hide the ring from any Customs officer is a very bad idea indeed.

Not sure why it would be an issue. Lots of people travel with some jewellery in their luggage or handbag. Carry it in your checked suitcase and leave the paperwork with it.
But on the off chance it is very very valuable I would certainly document it in your home in case you should need to claim for it. And perhaps have it named on your insurance. Our household policy won't cover any item above £1k in value unless it's specifically named.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe and Old Style Money Saving boards. Do you see any particular advantage in this, over carrying it personally onboard, that is worth exposing it to theft..?
I would never pack anything of value into checked luggage. Certainly not valuable items of jewellery.

If you are giving the ring to your partner on holiday will they not be wearing it when you come back to UK?
I have never had any query raised on the rings or jewellery I am wearing when travelling.0 -
Had no issues when doing this personally many years ago with an engagement ring.
A friend was unlucky and had a bag search done in front of his fiancée to be but that wasnt a customs issue given it was when exiting the UK so the game was up he got down on one knee in airport security but she told him to do it properly when they were on holiday.
As others say, jewellery is always worn or in hand luggage and never had any problems at either end.0
