I've never dared chuck hot water onto a freezing windscreen.  So I mostly scrape and turn the car's heating on full.

De-icers are a bit of a last resort.  They don't work very well.  They also evaporate off very quickly.  I have had occasions where I have sprayed the winscreen so I can see out.  But as I set off down the road, the de-icer evaporates off and I'm suddenly looking at a completely frosted over window again.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

I tell the app to start the car 15 minutes before I need it. All nice and warm.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.

I'm with you on that. Unfortunately I have to turn the heated steering wheel on manually when I enter the toasty car

I keep mine garaged so no need for scraping, hot water or de icer, heated windscreen if it’s frosty whilst I’m out

I dodged the situation altogether by getting rid of the car

Would you trust a guy on MSS that said he has been doing it for years without a problem?
Sometimes when its really cold, it will refreeze with a de-icer. Seems like most on here are above average earners

I use a windscreen cover, no messing with scrapers and water.

It's that time of year again!
There are always warnings about not using boiling water, but maybe hot water is ok?
That is what I have been using, for the last few years, with no problems.
Has anyone poured on hot water to a frozen windscreen and seen it crack?
I have never heard of it happening, just warnings.
Hot water is much easier than other methods, 50% cold water and 50% boiling water.
Surely that is hot water 🤣

I have on occasion run the hot tap and filled a bucket, but I normally use a large jug.

  • Scraper. De icer only works seemingly if it wasn’t proper ice anyway, as someone already noted, you drive away and the de icer freezes up.
