MDF loft hatch - what insulation to buy?

We have had a lift hatch fitted made out of MDF and have since painted it. To help add a little extra energy efficiency, we want to insulate the loft hatch on the bit that sits inside the loft.

What insulation material should we buy (and where from) and how to attach it to the hatch?

How is the hatch fixed in place? Is it hinged, or does it just drop into place?

    Is there a loft ladder?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

By the way draught excluder is more important than insulation.

It’s a continuous hinge that allows it to open and hang.

There is but not attached to the door, it’s attached to the loft floor and pulls down separately.

Th pre manufactured ones I've had have a piece of expanded polystyrene fixed to the hatch (I removed mine and wrapped it in polythene to stop it shedding). If you have bought a large appliance recently, the packaging would be ideal! A piece of 'kingspan' type insulation board would probably do too

I agree with Flash. More or less anything with a bit of insulation value will do. If there’s a bit of left over insulation in the loft, you could use that. Wrapped in plastic, if necessary, and glued or stapled to the hatch. Obviously, shaped to be out of the way of the ladder, etc.
