Hi, I ordered a new desktop PC for the family for Christmas from Dell a couple of weeks ago. They delivered the monitor within a couple of days but the actual tower has been delayed. I have no way of checking if the monitor works properly without the tower so would that part of the order be covered for 30 days from when the rest of the order arrives? Also, as its a Christmas present I'm getting a bit concerned that the tower won't turn up in time. They have similar towers in stock for a bit more in Currys but if I cancel my order with Dell, I've been told that I'd need to pay the costs to return the monitor as it was discounted as part of a bundle. Surely that's unfair. I'm thinking they've sent part of the order to discourage people from cancelling delayed orders - which seem to be a common occurance with Dell at the moment. I'm a bit pee'd off that they didn't mention this at the point of sale with the website estimate being around a week. Thanks.

The monitor and tower unit may be despatched from different locations so separate delivery isn't particularly surprising. The website apparently estimated around a week, there was not a guarantee of that timescale. Assuming there are contact details for them either call or email for an update.

they've told me there's an ongoing issue with supply of semi-conductors which has been happening since the start of the pandemic.
The semi conductor issue started in 2019 well before the pandemic. We've been struggling to get HP stock since then. Currently 6 month lead time on business laptops0 -
Deleted_User said:What about being unable to test the monitor until the tower arrives? I don't even have a laptop I can plug into it at the moment. With regard to the estimate, ive contacted them and they've told me there's an ongoing issue with supply of semi-conductors which has been happening since the start of the pandemic. They obviously would have known this when I was given an estimate of a week. How long would you think is acceptable given the estimate? Some people on other forums have said they've been waiting months with estimates being regularly pushed back.1

As to the main question ... if this was a single order (package) then any warranty (I believe) as well as consumer rights timescales should be from delivery of the last item.Jenni x0

If you're concerned about delivery before Christmas, just cancel the order, return the monitor for a full refund and buy elsewhere.0

So when you asked Dell about the tower what did they say?
