Faulty fridge

Options
Hello, I bought a fridge/freezer 13months again which means it’s out of the 12 month manufacturer guarantee…it’s developed a fault, I contacted the retailer… they have offered me half the money of the original price I paid but in the form of a card which can only be used instore, can anyone advise me what to do next please

  • It's up to you to decide whether or not to accept.  You could counter for a higher sum, given that a 50% reduction after 13 months is a little high, but you should factor in the sums involved and what price you're able to get a suitable replacement for.

50% seems to little but the retailer can request you show the goods didn't conform to the contract in terms of durability.

This typically requires an independent inspection from a local appliance company which should show that the fridge hasn't failed due to user damage, misuse, etc.

The trader can reduce the refund so you are looking at lifespan minus use (from the time you can reject) and typically payments are made back to the original payment method.

Best thing to do is push for a better refund and if you can't meet an agreement follow the above but I don't think there is anything to force them to refund via a different method.

Worth a note the trader can replace or repair if they wish but must do so without significant inconvenience and within a reasonable time.
