Heating advice

  • We're in the same boat, embarking on our third leccy-only winter since moving to the wonderful countryside.
    These are pretty good...
Obviously they're only as efficient as any other electric heater, but they actually radiate the heat at you, like a fire does, or like sunbathing.  It can make you feel warmer than you would in the room at the same temperature, as the heat is being pointed directly at you.  Only use if it can go somewhere low down that isn't going to be hazardous, e.g. to pets or kids.
If your heaters are wall-mounted on external walls you'll be shoving a good amount of the heat through the wall.  Freestanding heaters within the room will work much more efficiently.
I also highly recommend an electric blanket and those old fashioned things called jumpers.  Wearing two t-shirts underneath instead of one makes a big difference too.

  • I share your pain. We’re renting and it’s leccy only on a pre pay meter with Utilitia. But our property is 100+ years old and only a few of the rooms have Cheapy McCheap double glazing. We have 3 storage heaters but only use one which works went it feels like it. Thanks Dimplex. We’re paying 10-12 per day. Horrendous. And believe me when I say both my wife and I are low energy users. £70 per week and still wearing multiple layers at all times with no heating in kitchen or bathroom. We paid £80 per month for leccy AND gas at our last place. REALLY bugs me.

Ordered one, picking up tonight! I'll get more if it does the job, fished an old plug in portable radiator too which is doing a better job. The  other radiators are all wall mounted on the external walls, barely seem to be going over 15 even when I've had them on for a few hours.
