My Mother sadly passed away last week, I am the executor of her will. A few months ago I asked the DWP to look to see if she had been one of the people who had bee under paid. They said at the time it was looking like she had been, I haven’t heard anything since. just wondered what would the likely implications for probate.?
thanks in anticipation.

The only issue it might cause is with declaration of value for the IHT return, but that only really matters if her estate is near or in IHT territory.Don’t expect a prompt reply from the DWP.1

Thank you for your reply. The estate is below the inheritance tax threshold.Keep_pedalling said:The only issue it might cause is with declaration of value for the IHT return, but that only really matters if her estate is near or in IHT territory.Don’t expect a prompt reply from the DWP.
I know what you mean regards the DWP I have been in contact with them as I said some months ago still waiting to hear, the lady I spoke too was still working from home she warned me of delays.0 -
Sorry for your loss. I have been dealing with three parts of DWP since the death of my mum 7 weeks ago. Her outstanding state pension was paid quite quickly, about 3 weeks after her death. Winter fuel payment came last Friday. Attendance Allowance is the one I'm still waiting for, but they were able to tell me how much it would be so I used that figure in the IHT calculation (like you the estate is well below the allowance). If you haven't spoken to the relevant department to inform them of your mum's death I would do that as they might have a section that deals specifically with underpayments where the person has died and they may be able to speed things up a bit.1
